What to Inspect Before Restarting a Solar Pump After Long-term Shutdown
In applications such as agricultural irrigation and water supply in remote areas, a solar pump may be left idle for an extended period due to seasonal changes, the end of an irrigation cycle, or temporary project suspension. When it needs to be put back into service, it is not recommended to start the pump directly. Necessary inspections of the system should be carried out first to prevent malfunctions caused by equipment conditions or wiring issues.
First, inspect the pump and its mounting components. For a solar submersible water pump that has been out of service for a long time, check the pump appearance, cables, connectors and mounting fixtures to confirm there is no obvious damage, looseness or corrosion. If the pump was previously lifted out of the well, also check the pump body and related parts for abnormalities. For a Solar Surface Pump installed on the ground, inspect the water inlet pipeline and joints to ensure no obvious water leakage or blockage.
Second, inspect the solar power supply system. Before restarting the solar pump, check the wiring of solar panels, terminal blocks and connections of the controller. Verify that the positive and negative poles are correctly connected, and the wires are free of damage or loose connections. Meanwhile, check the surface of solar panels for coverings such as dust and leaves, which would reduce power generation.
Third, inspect the solar pump controller. TPON solar pumps are equipped with dedicated solar pump controllers. Before restarting, check the display status and wiring of the controller. If an alarm occurs or the unit fails to start normally, troubleshoot the power supply voltage, wiring connections and system parameters according to the corresponding fault prompts. Do not repeatedly start the pump without identifying the root cause.
Finally, perform a trial run and observe the water output. After completing the above inspections, start the pump in accordance with product requirements. Monitor the operating noise, controller status and actual water output. Shut down the pump promptly for inspection if abnormal vibration, irregular water flow or controller alarms are found.
For solar pump dealers, informing customers of the precautions for restarting equipment after idle periods is also an important part of after-sales service.
