What Impact Does Sand Content in Well Water Have on Solar Deep Well Pumps?
When extracting water with a solar deep well pump, many projects focus heavily on pump power, head and flow rate. However, the condition of the water source itself also deserves attention. Particularly for deep well water intake projects, if the well water contains large amounts of sediment or solid impurities, the normal operation of the pump may be affected. Therefore, checking the water quality of well water is a basic task to be addressed in the project before installing a solar water well pump system.
Per the operating requirements for solar deep well pumps, the water quality shall be kept clean, with sand content controlled within 0.01% and pH value maintained between 6.5 and 8.5. Meanwhile, ferromagnetic impurities and solid particles shall be prevented from entering the pump body. If the actual water source contains excessive impurities, filter devices can be added according to site conditions.
Why is sand content important? When well water carries heavy sediment, the pump may draw in sand while running. If the water source consistently contains abundant solid particles over the long term, more attention must be paid to the pump’s operating environment and installation conditions. Hence, understanding well water conditions before project launch helps distributors and installers identify potential problems in advance.
Besides water quality, the pump’s installation position inside the well is equally important. As required, the pump shall be placed at least 1 meter above the sediment at the well bottom to avoid proximity to bottom deposits. Moreover, the pump must be fully submerged, with a minimum of 1 meter below the dynamic water level. Proper installation helps reduce direct contact between the pump and sediment at the well bottom.

For distributors, when offering customers solutions of solar water pumps for agriculture or water pump off grid, collect basic information in advance including well depth, well diameter, dynamic water level and water quality. If the customer’s water source has high sediment content, inspect site conditions promptly and consider filter devices as needed.
As a solar water pump manufacturer, TPON supplies solar deep well pumps and matching controllers. For solar water pump projects, product selection, installation environment and actual water source conditions need to be considered comprehensively. Checking water quality and well conditions beforehand, as well as installing and operating equipment in compliance with product specifications, are essential basic steps before commissioning a solar water well pump system.
